I have an unhealthy obsession with being overly chipper on the phone in the vicinity of 0600. I especially like to strike at departments calling in to log on duty. Two cups of coffee and caller ID is quickly becoming a grizzled old cop's nightmare:
"Goooooooooooooooooooood morrrrrrrrrrrrrniiiiing Anytown PD!"
"Jesus Christ!" *phone drops*
[a moment later after recovering]: Yeah. We're here. Log us on.
*click*
Take it easy with that caffeine, now... ;-)
ReplyDeleteNow if you followed that up with, "This is not a test, this is ROCK AND ROLL", then played some Martha and the Vandellas, I'd transfer to your force immediately
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE this! i do the SAME thing!!! we don't have the caller id, but i do sound overly chipper when our units are signing on duty or when they call in and they HATEEEEEE it. they all say UGHHHHH you again or various things! but now i am on evening shift and i am actually shocked how many of them have sent me little messages saying they miss it that it made their mornings. So keep that in mind. they WILL miss you when it's gone :)
ReplyDeleteMr. Hogday, they don't give me a chance to continue. Perhaps next time I'll have Martha and the Vandellas playing in the background when I pick up.
ReplyDeleteAFD, I know they secretly like it. One of the perks of my job is making them grumble. :)
Cops like to moan and grumble. Its in the job description.
